The Grey Wolf pickups use your choice of magnets and may be had at about 7.5k ohms in the neck and about 8.5k in the bridge, sometimes more. The Grey Wolf is a flexible model, meaning it can be had in two variants...Alnico-2 for a smoother tone, or Alnico-5, with modern Polysol wire for a punchier tone that is similar to Gibson "T-top."

I got a Grey Wolf for the neck position of my Gibson Les Paul Standard. It made a huge positive difference. Never harsh, yet more clarity and definition. I never regretted the decision one bit.

I’m not sure why I don’t see much about this pickup on forums. This is the perfect pickup for getting the late 70s early 80s crunch. Nice biting top end and tight lows.To me the Grey Wolf is to T Tops as the Marshallhead is to PAFs.
I play late 70s early 80s punk and it is nailing the tones heard on those recordings. I went with the Alinco 5 for the bridge of my SG standard. Can’t recommend these Wolfs enough. Will be getting more for my other guitars

I’m a low to medium output pickup guy, and as the Grey Wolf was listed under the “modern” category I was unaware of what it was it until very recently. Don’t have a ton of experience with regular T-Top pickups except for the new T-Type from Gibson, which I’m a big fan of – but always wished it had a bit more output and juice. I think it’s partially the guitar, but the Grey Wolf is surprisingly hot for its on paper specs. Not excessive in any way though, just really ballsy and pushes the amp in a very natural way. If you hit the strings properly hard it rewards you with a characteristic AC/DC “clank”, but it’s not so prominent that it only works for that kind of thing. I really really like this pickup, it’s one of my favorite humbuckers I’ve ever tried actually.

A great choice for people who don’t really like high output pickups, but want a bit more juice than a totally vintage correct PAF. I haven’t tried a Marshallhead in the same guitar, but have tried it in another guitar. The Grey Wolf is a very cool alternative to that, it’s always hard to compare pickups in different guitars but I think it’s safe to say the GW is not quite as raunchy and angry in the upper mids, a bit more balanced to my ears. A vintage style pickup with a modern edge to it is not a half bad analogy. It even splits well too! Unless it stops working, which I don’t see why should happen, it’s never coming out of this Les Paul.
