Bought a used guitar that already had these installed. I WILL be using them in more of my guitars. The guitar in question is a Heritage H535 (ES-335 style), and these are absolutely the perfect match for that guitar. Warm, full-sounding cleans with just enough brightness and just enough low-end thump… perfect low-midrange presence to cut through and when pushed with overdrive, they sound AMAZING. FANTASTIC pickups!!

I would like to hear them in my Les Paul now, too. It will take something special to bump the Imperials that are in there, but these might just do it.

Put these in a ’82 LP Custom. Absolutely sublime. Especially coming from the 498t and 490R set that the previous owner put in.
Those pickups were insanely hot and congested.

Put a set of Dr Vintage in, and it’s an entirely different guitar. Open and clear, with bite. Exactly what this guitar needed.

  3. Rip Lowe

I’ve found these pickups are the closest to the legend PAF sound. They break up an amp naturally. I can play at a lower volume and still have the amp break up nicely. Somehow these pickups are the ones!

I have installed this pickup in my Tokai les paul and definitely sounded very great, very articulate sound, well balanced, with full rounded sound. it has all the characteristics i have been craving foy a neck pickup. i strongly recommend this pickup to everyone looking for pickups to upgrade their gears. i bet you wont regret purchasing these great sounding and high quality PUPs. Thanks Wolfe

Have been searching for the “perfect” humbucker for years – the search has ended. This pick up is the best pu I have ever heard and played. Extremely balanced, open, warm, lots of clarity and there is this great bite to it. Its such a joy to play guitar with this great tone. Mine is mounted in a semi hollow Heritage 535 (Gibson 335’ish). The clean is simply wonderful in both bridge and neck – and when you add drive it just keep sounding really really goof

  6. Mark Flemmer

I have one of these in the neck position of my Les Paul Custom, with a MKII in the bridge. It’s easy to get Allman Brothers and Marshall Tucker Band tones with this baby. Superb for either clean or overdriven tones–very sweet, but with great clarity. An improvement over the Gibson ’57 Classic I was using–for that one, I had to lower the pickup well below the surrounding ring and adjust the pole pieces pretty high to get the clarity I wanted, but by then it started sounding thin. The Dr. V is set in a fairly typical height position, and has both the fullness, clarity and bite I like–no compromise. Of course, Wolfe is great to work with, as everyone has said!

In the past year I’ve bought 2 pairs of Wolfetones, 1st a Dr. Vintage/Marshall Head combo for my Paul. I loved them so much I soon called the Wolf back (yes, he answers the phone) and told him I wanted to turn my, new to me, Schecter Corsair (335 copy) into a “low output, clean machine”……
Once again, he delivered – 2 Dr. Vintages, noticeably lower in output than the Dr. in my Paul, but still with that beautiful tone.
Huge upgrade from the stock pups. I thought the guitar must be naturally dark, no, it’s just right. And don’t let the low output fool you, while they like to stay clean, when they do break up, it’s incredible! Nails old AC/DC
Once all my present G.A.S. is paid for, I’ll be calling the Wolf back about some Tele pups.
The guy makes some of the best pickups on the planet, but seems to be the only one offering 25% off….. It’s a no-brainer.

  8. Artem Grinevich

I play Gibson SG with these pickups and it’s a killer machine! All guitarists, without exception, tell me that this is the best sound they have ever heard. I play different good guitars including Gibson 335 and Heritage 535, but when I play SG, everyone tells me that my tone is just unbeatable. And I think the main component of this sound is the pickups. I start to think I need some more of this precious sound for my other guitars =) I want to thank Wolftone for such a great product!

I have these in the neck position on my Les Paul and ES-175. Often times aftermarket pickups are lots of “voodoo” and a high price because of said voodoo. Wolfe’s pickups are the best pickups; after giving the Gibson Classic 57’s a few years to hear them; I’ve come to the conclusion that they’re not for me. The Dr. Vintage pickups make a great replacement; and you won’t pay an arm and a leg for them.

You can pay 500+ for the “PAF” tone or you can buy good pickups that deliver on what you need. Wolfe’s also a cool guy, he’s called me to let me know my pickups were delayed. You don’t need to pay an arm and a leg for good tone and service. Just buy from Wolfe.

Installed it in the neck of a Tele. Amazing tone. I’ve never tried a true paf but it doesn’t matter. This humbucker is sweet and loud and warm.

  11. John Dean Orr III

Warm and powerful in my Tele neck. Clear and balanced.

I was looking for a set of pickups for a 335 style guitar. Called Wolfe and he suggested a set of Dr. Vintage. Placed the order and the pickups arrived a mere 5 days later. Installed em in the guitar and Wow! Clear open notes, touch sensitive, super articulate highs but not too shrill. Warm lows but not muddy. I could go on with more adjectives but my point is theses are great pickups at a steal of a price. I’m already planning my next purchase. Thanks Wolfe.

  13. Greg Dunn (verified owner)

Open and smooth sounding, paired with vintage bumblebees and pots sounds as good as any vintage PAFs I have tested. Roll the tone back and it’s pure vintage magic.

  14. Clayton Welch (verified owner)

I switched out my Epiphone Sheraton stock pickups with Dr Vintages and was blown away. I loved my guitar, but the pickups were muddy and “woofy.” The clarity on the Dr Vs is crazy good. Still warm, but the muddiness is gone. Wolfe contacted me almost immediately once I ordered, and shipped them super fast. Amazing service, fantastic tones. I can’t put my guitar down. Highly recommend!

  15. GreenMagic

Absolutely phenomenal. I just acquired a ‘Clapton Cut’ replica Explorer. This was installed in the neck. I had previously considered an original late 70s Seymour Duncan ’59 bridge pickup in the neck my favorite in a mahogany explorer… this is better. Amazing clear ‘impossible’ tones for me – the anti – mud pickup. And a beautiful break up. tone heaven. well done!!

  16. Hayden O’Neill

This is about two months after putting the pickups into my guitar and I couldn’t be any happier. I wasn’t very sure about which pickups to grab, so I emailed and asked and was recommended the marshall head in the bridge and a dr. vintage neck and it blew away my expectations.

I just installed these on my 2020 Les Paul Standard and damn, what a big difference in tone! So much better than the stock 60’s Burstbuckers. A lot more clarity and just overall better sound! Wolfe was very helpful since I was originally going to get the Marshallhead/Dr. Vintage combo but I told him what I was looking for and he recommended just using the Dr. Vintage for both and he was absolutely right! These will be a permanent addition to my LP!

  18. Shawn MacNeal (verified owner)

Needed to replace the pickups in a 2020 Gibson LP Standard, the 61 Burstbuckers sounded pretty good but the A5 magnets were a little bright in that guitar. Ordered a set of Dr Vintage in a custom Bobbin color not listed and the pickups were wound the same day. Ordered on a Thursday and they were in my mailbox on Saturday. Wolfe kept in touch and even ask me to let him know when they arrived so he could make sure I received them. This kind of customer service is impossible to find nowadays, but it exists here. As for the pickups, they sound awesome. Admittedly it took me a little bit of experimenting with the neck pickup to get the tone I was after, but it’s there, just make small adjustments in height and you’ll find your tone. My neck is set just flush with the pickup ring, and bridge set a few turns higher. These Dr Vintage pickups fit my style of playing, Blues edge of breakup tones to Classic Rock. Way better clarity than the stock Gibson pickups. I can hear every string ring out when strumming open chords, even when some gain is introduced. And the lead tones cut through the mix like a hot knife through butter. If your looking for a vintage P.A.F. tone for your axe, start here with Dr Vintage, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Just installed an old set of Dr. Vintage pickups, gifted to me from Billy Kiser, he thought they would be a perfect fit for an old build that has evolved over 25 years. these are hands down the best sounding pickups ever!

I was searching for good LP Style PUs in the Internet.Every PU maker says I have them ! The only ones that Sound like a 59 Les Paul ,EVERYBODY has them !
I listen to as many as possible and find some. But in my Guitar they did not sound like an Old LP ! late I fund Wolfes Webpage. I ordered pair .One Dr. Vintage for the Neck Position and a Marshalhead for the Bridge . I didn’t had a LP or SG Type of Guitar anymore But a PRS “The Paul ” SE guitar. Its a Guitar like double cut LP but a bit thinner Body. As Wolfes PUs where in it, it was like a sunrise ! Such a sound ! The PUS are GREAT ! The react of every fine art of playing and can also POWER the hardest Riffs everything an old Les Paul can do ! My Dream PUs ! Sorry for my Bad English ,I’m from Berlin Germany, hope you understand what I´m talking here!

I put these in both my 98 Les Paul Studio Lite and my 96 Classic and it’s been stellar. They clean up and they raunch out.
The ceramic crap that was in there previously was only moderately adequate for dirty but really…only meh.

I have these in two guitars. One is a PRS SE Bernie Marsden, and the swap turned this from an OK guitar to “wow”. Just night and day, it has great tone for clean or crunch. The other guitar is a PRS HB Spruce, and again these really opened up the guitar.

I have these in 2 guitars. A PRS SE Bernie Marsden and a PRS HB Spruce. I figured these would improve the Bernie, but it transformed it into as close to a true LP as I’ll ever need. Clean to crunch, all good. In the HB, it brought some life and sparkle, which was what I was looking for. If you want a PAF style sound, the Dr. Vintages will not dissappoint

I have these in two guitars. The first is a PRS SE Bernie Marsden. I knew replacing the pickups would improve it, as the originals had been replaced with crap ones. Well it turned this into a fine fine LP style guitar. Warmth and clarity, and sounds great. The other is a PRS Hollowbody Spruce. The new pickups opened the guitar up, and it is a much bigger improvement than I was hoping for. PAF wise, these are pick of the litter IMHO
