Let’s just say this summer has been unbearably warm, and it started early.  In a city known most for its rain (and coffee) this has been highly unusual weather.   The AC unit in the shop that has been running constantly for days does nothing.  It’s been impossible to get the shop temp below 80 degrees.  Ambient room temp plays a huge role in how high or low ohms your pickups will read.  My collected data shows that temperature swing of 10 degrees can cause a variance of about .2k. So, when winding coils, I try to take that into account.  For example, the Dr. Vintage bridge pickup’s target ohms is 8.05k at 65 degrees.  If our ambient room temp is 75 degrees, I’m shooting for a reading of 8.25k, which should settle down to 8.05k at a reasonable room temp. Plus or minus a small amount, given wire tolerances and such.

In any case, it’s very warm.   So if your pickups don’t read exactly the stated ohms, take temperature into account. =)
