Description

Lower output version of the Marshallhead for those that find it “too much.” Slightly degaussed Alnico 5 magnets sweeten the tone and smooth out the high end. Won’t push the front end of your amp quite as hard. Very similar to the Pat# pickups of the early 1960’s.

Punch, clarity and pure balanced tone. Responds amazing to picking hand dynamics. Pairs excellent with a marshallhead in the neck.

Best pickups I’ve ever used. Put them in a Gibson Les Paul Standard, coil splits, does the out of phase thing great. Highly recommend. I play rock n’ roll. Sounds good clean and dirty.

This review is a long time coming–I’ve had one of these in my Les Paul Custom’s bridge position for a while now. I Was debating between the Marshallhead and Dr. V (I used the latter for the neck). The MKII is a great middle ground between those two. My Custom has a maple neck and ebony fretboard, and Wolfe suggested the Marshallhead might be more brash than I was looking for. This pickup can do both sweet and tough, and responds very well to both picking dynamics and the guitar’s controls. Cleans up very nicely, and can really achieve sweet tones when rolling the volume and/or tone knobs back. Pairs very nicely with the Dr. V neck. Between the two, I can get anything from Jimmy Page tones to Allman Brothers to Toy Caldwell (Marshall Tucker Band). Great chirp and quack in the middle position. Wolfe is one of my favorite people in the world to speak on the phone with–he makes you feel like you’ve been friends with him for years. Thanks for your pickups and your friendship, Wolfe!

Great clear, articulate PAF style pickups with great drive tones. They split great too.

Wolfe suggested this as a neck pickup for my Les Paul (combined with the A2 Marshallhead) Awesome combo! Great clarity and punch with no mud when used in the neck.

For over twenty years I have been searching for the ideal sound for my guitars and now I have to say that I have found a really good pickup that has made me forget all the ones I previously believed were the best of the moment. I had already tried other Wolfetone pickups, the Legend, for example, which I found very good. The Timber Wolfe on the other hand, while being a good pickup, didn’t give me that detail and warmth I’m looking for.
With the Marshallhead MKII we are at the top for my taste. What struck me most is the sensitivity of the pickup to the touch of the guitarist, in fact it can be sweet and warm or reasonably aggressive, based on the strength of the hand. The sound is exceptionally balanced, warm but not closed, bright but never squeaky – I must say that what bothers me most is the shrill and cutting sound of many major brand pickups.
The sound I hear now is very detailed, each note comes out in a precise and transparent way, it is easier to hear the sound, the wood of the guitar, almost like there was an invisible piezo somewhere …
I can’t stop playing and I am amazed at the variety of shades that can come out of the same pickup! I end up telling you that I installed it on a Les Paul Junior Custom Shop that already had an HB as standard. Now I play everything from rock to blues to jazz – by adjusting the tone the pickup is always present but warm just right.
    Thanks Wolfetone !!!

Never liked the stock pickups in my 335. Wolfe recommended a pair of these as a replacement and it was a great choice. Clear and bright, break up nice, a huge improvement. I guess I’ll keep the 335 after all. Thanks Wolfetone.

A really great PAF style pickup. Very balanced and clear but slightly more exaggerated, almost like an enhanced PAF. Does clean and overdriven very well. The quality of construction is beautiful. As soon as I held it in my hand I was sure this would last a lifetime or longer.

I had these laying around for about a year until I finally installed them into a les paul tribute. Wow! They have the low end muscle you expect from a les paul and still remain detailed and clear. The improvement in tone is similar to the clarity a good set of tubes brings to your amp. They handle overdrive extremely well and remain detailed. I’ve been playing for 45 years and this is my first humbucker set that you can hear the different frequencies in layers. It’s a big soundstage, hard to explaine but quite an experience.
